WATERVILLE — Freshman Nick O’Connor scored his team-best third goal of the season and Mario Benicky added a goal an assist to lead the Colby men’s hockey over Connecticut College 3-2 on Friday night at Alfond Rink.

After a scoreless first period, Colby’s Michael Rudlof scored his second of the season from Mario Benicky.

Colby (3-3-1, 2-3 NESCAC) picked up its third power play opportunity with 4:19 left in the second and capitalized 1:01 later when O’Connor buried a rebound off his own shot.

Senior forward Joe Birmingham later scored a power play goal for Connecticut College (1-5-2, 0-3-2) just 36 seconds into the final period.

Colby went up 3-1 when Benicky scored with 12:27 to go. The Camels, who came into the game 0-for-22 on the power play, scored their second power play goal just 10 seconds after Colby took a tripping penalty with 8:23 remaining. Senior Tim DiPretoro scored with 8:13 remaining.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 95, UMF 48: Jack Simonds scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Polar Bears to the win in Brunswick.

Simonds nearly had a double-double, grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Lucas Hausman added 19 points for Bowdoin (5-3), which shot 60 percent from the field.

Nick Hilton led UMF with 13 points, while Eric Berry scored 12 points for the Beavers (0-8).
