Two men are in custody in connection with a heroin-trafficking ring that operated in northern Penobscot County, police said.

Paul Bone, 30, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Ryan Schiller, 31, of Mattawamkeag were arrested and charged Friday night with Class A aggravated trafficking, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The charges were elevated to aggravated because both men have prior convictions for drug trafficking, McCausland said.

McCausland said the arrests are the culmination of an investigation that began several weeks ago into the sale of heroin that was being brought into Maine from out of state. Undercover agents also purchased heroin during the investigation.

On Friday night, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers, deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, and Maine State Police troopers raided a home at 42 Hathaway Road in Mattawamkeag where they seized 20 grams – about 200 doses – of heroin, McCausland said.

Bone and Schiller are being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
