A Bangor woman was hospitalized and charged with assault after allegedly hitting another patron at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall on Preble Avenue in Madison early Sunday morning.

Nicole Smith, 30, of Bangor, was taken into custody after she allegedly became disorderly and punched a woman in the throat who had asked her to calm down, according to Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy James Ross.

The assault was reported at 12:36 a.m. Sunday, according to the Somerset County dispatch log.

Smith was taken to Redington-Fairfield General Hospital in Somerset for evaluation because he condition was so impaired, where she was issued a court summons on an assault charge, Ross said.

“There were concerns that at her level of impairment, she should be checked,” he said.
