Go! Malawi is once again beginning its road race series with the Set The Pace 5K at 11 a.m. Jan. 1, 2016, at the Smokestack Grill, 43 Mechanic St., Camden.

The New Year’s Day race is the first of five holiday 5Ks the nonprofit organizes annually to raise money to fund its education program in rural Malawi. Go! Malawi helps educate orphaned children in order to give them a “hand up” and a chance at a productive life.

Walkers, runners and well-behaved dogs are all welcome to register at The Smokestack Grill starting at 9:45 a.m. New Year’s Day. People also can pre-register at active.com, runsignup.com or visit the website of www.go-malawi.org. Those who pre-register receive five chances (instead of one) to win local giveaways, African carvings, gift certificates and other prizes.

The annual 5K race series, organized by local volunteers includes local, kindhearted walkers and runners who share a common vision: “To Run With a Purpose, For a Purpose.” They challenge themselves to be physically fit and to make a positive global change supporting Go! Malawi! The team raises money for Go! Malawi’s education fund as there is no free public education in Malawi past eighth grade.
