About the Family Violence Project
Family Violence Project, the domestic violence resource center in Kennebec and Somerset counties in central Maine, has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and their families for 38 years. In addition to a free, confidential 24-hour helpline, the center operates two emergency domestic violence shelters (one in each county; the shelter in Somerset County houses a ground-breaking program which serves women who are experiencing domestic violence and addiction issues, and their children), in-person advocacy in three offices, support groups, court and legal advocacy, liaison services with our local child protective office, a batterers’ intervention program, community education, school-based prevention education and a volunteer program. Its vision is a community where people treat each other with respect and its mission is to end domestic abuse in Kennebec and Somerset counties by increasing victim safety, empowering survivors, and advocating for social change.
