Firefighters spent most of Monday afternoon and evening fighting a fire that started in a garage before spreading to a home on Orr’s Island.

Several communities, including all of Harpswell’s three village fire departments and Brunswick, battled the blaze, which lit up the night sky over Lowells Cove.

A dispatcher for the Cumberland County dispatch center said the fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. at 21 Lower Road. Crews were still at the scene as of 10 p.m.

Neighbors told WCSH-TV that the fire started in a car parked outside the garage before spreading into the garage and home. They also told the TV station that the homeowner stores classic cars in the garage.

No injuries were reported.
