A Strong man was arrested on a charge of sexual abuse of a minor following a joint investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the state Department of Health and Human Services, police said.

Michael Crandall, 54, of Strong, was arrested on the charge, a class C felony, on Thursday, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said Friday in a news release.

Franklin County Detective Ken Charles worked with DHHS child protective workers regarding a reported sex crime in Strong, the release said. Based on leads gathered by Charles and information gathered through a polygraph examination, Crandall was arrested Thursday, Nichols said.

The complaint was brought to the Sheriff’s Department through DHHS on Jan. 12, Nichols said. He was not able to provide further details about the nature of the complaint.

Crandall was released from the Franklin County jail Thursday night on $1,000 cash bail.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David St. Laurent and Maine State Police Detective Jennifer King assisted with the investigation.
