Police Detective Sgt. Bill Bonney received the Officer of the Year Award during the 17th annual Maine Association of Police Banquet that was held Jan. 23 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.

The award is presented to the officer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment and service to their department and the community they served for the year 2015. Bonney supervises the Waterville Police Department’s detective division, which is responsible for investigating all major crimes. His leadership, knowledge of criminal investigation, common sense approach to investigations and his ability to effectively manager resources and detectives results in most major cases being solved.

“Sgt. Bonney is one of the most competent supervisors of an investigative unit that I have observed in my 37 years in law enforcement,” Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said in a news release.
