A New Hampshire couple charged with sexually assaulting the woman’s children when they lived in Oakland have entered not guilty pleas in arraignments this month.

Steven R. Smith, 37, pleaded not guilty Thursday at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta to charges of sexual misconduct with a child, two counts of visual sexual aggression against a child and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct, according to court records.

Sarah Conway, 26, pleaded not guilty Feb. 2 to two counts of visual sexual aggression against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

The two were arrested in November in Canaan, New Hampshire, and charged with sexually abusing the two children.

They were indicted on the charges by a grand jury in January and their next court dates are in May.

According to affidavits filed in court at the time of their arrest, Conway told Canaan, New Hampshire, police in September that Smith was her former fiance and the two had viewed child pornography together when they lived in Oakland from 2014 to 2015.

Conway told police that Smith had said he had abused his own children sexually and talked her into abusing her children.
