A trailer caught fire on Interstate 95 in Waterville Monday afternoon, slowing traffic as police and fire crews responded.
The trailer was in the southbound lane of the interstate, just north of exit 127.
Jeff Tuttle, who was driving by shortly after 4:20 p.m., said the trailer was engulfed in flames and had been detached. Fire crews had not yet arrived at the scene, he said.
Fire crews were still at the scene about 5:30 p.m. finishing up as the trailer was to be loaded onto a flatbed and taken away.
Lt. Scott Holst of the Waterville Fire Department said there were no injuries, and it’s unknown how the fire started. The enclosed trailer had been hauling household furnishings, he said.
