FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington will present a concert featuring Stephen Vitiello and Neil Leonard, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the Performance Space of the Emery Community Arts Center on the UMF campus, according to a news release from the university.

The performance will be the first concert in the New England tour.

In this live sound collaborative composition, media artist Vitiello and transdisciplinary artist Leonard will explore the use of random computer processing to arrange environmental field recordings and instrumental recordings into a unified sound world. For this performance, everyday objects such as sticks, strings and rocks will intertwine with saxophone and a modular synthesizer in a quadraphonic mix, according to the release.

An electronic musician and media artist, Vitiello has had numerous CD releases published on the New Albion, Sub Rosa, 12k, Dragon’s Eye Recordings and Room 40 labels as well as through galleries, including The Texas Gallery and Kaldor Public Art Projects.

Leonard is a composer, saxophonist and transdisciplinary artist, according to the release. He has collaborated with Joanne Brackeen, Richard Devine, Vijay Iyer, Phill Niblock, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Robin Rimbaud and Stephen Vitiello.
