Heating oil prices have dropped again, with the statewide average down to $1.69 a gallon, the Governor’s Energy Office said Wednesday.
According to the office, the statewide average dropped 2 cents a gallon from last week. The average price for kerosene also declined by two cents, to $2.26 a gallon, while propane prices for residential heating customers rose a penny a gallon to an average of $2.23 per gallon.
Heating oil prices ranged from an average of $1.65 in the southwestern part of the state to $1.82 a gallon in northern Maine.
The GEO said the seaon-long average price for heating oil is $1.89 a gallon, down from an average of $2.85 a gallon last winter and $3.71 in 2013-14. The office said that Mainers are saving hundreds of milions of dollars on heating costs this year because of the lower fuel prices and a mild winter. The office said that heating degree days – a measure of heating demand – is down 10 to 14 percent from last year in Maine cities.
