Mid-Maine Technical Center’s VEX Robotics Team has been selected to represent the state at the 2016 VEX Worlds in Louisville, Kentucky, in April. The team took first place at the state “Nothing But Net” Vex competition held Feb. 21 at Hampden Academy, according to a news release from the center.

MMTC Information Technology Instructor and Robotics Team Coach Reggie Grenier called the win a “pleasant surprise” as the team had previously finished 16th at the qualifying competition held at Erskine Academy.

Grenier, who has mentored MMTC’s FRC Robotics Team for the past three seasons, introduced his team to VEX Robotics for the first time this year.

The team will be fundraising for the cost of registration and travel for the team. Grenier estimates the total cost of the trip to be about $5,000.
