Youngster impresses Tiger Woods with ace

An 11-year-old from Texas had a day he’ll never forget on the golf course – with Tiger Woods watching.

Woods was on hand for the opening of The Playgrounds at Bluejack National in Montgomery, Texas, which he helped design.

On the course’s inaugural shot, Taylor Crozier stepped up and aced the 81-yard par 3. The crowd went wild.

Woods posted the YouTube video on his Twitter page and gave the youngster a big hug.

CYCLING

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Australia overhauled Britain on the final lap to win the men’s team pursuit at the track cycling world championships at London.

Australia went out quickly but the host clawed back into the lead, going ahead as a home victory seemed likely at Lee Valley VeloPark.

But Australia hit back to take gold in a national record of 3 minutes, 52.727 seconds, the second fastest in history.

TENNIS

WTA: Maria Sharapova will miss next week’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, California, because of a left forearm injury.

Sharapova is currently No. 7 in the WTA rankings.

BOXING

OLYMPICS: If professional boxers are allowed to compete at Rio de Janeiro, Manny Pacquiao might delay his retirement a few months.

The Filipino star will face Timothy Bradley in April for his last career fight, but that could change if international boxing officials follow through with a plan to alter the sport’s amateurs-only rule.
