Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-car crash on Water Street in Hallowell Saturday night.

William Caswell, 33, and his mother, Jacqueline Caswell, both of West Gardiner, and Christopher Yeaton, 30, of Augusta, were all sent by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

Hallowell Police Officer Michael Beal said the crash, reported at 6:39 p.m. Saturday, occurred when William Caswell, driving toward Augusta, stopped to allow a vehicle to enter the parking lot of Lucky Garden.

Beal said Yeaton, who was driving a Nissan sedan, apparently did not see the Caswells’ Honda Element come to a halt, and Yeaton’s vehicle struck it in the rear.

Beal, who was traveling directly behind the two and witnessed the crash, said he immediately turned on his blue lights. Traffic was detoured briefly around the scene, and three rescue units responded. He said it did not appear that any of those transported had life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Beal said Sunday that no traffic citations were issued, and that everyone had been wearing a seatbelt.
