FAIRFIELD — Motorists can expect months of slow traffic and possible delays on Interstate 95 in Fairfield as crews replace the surface of the U.S. Route 201 overpass.

The Department of Transportation is starting a $2 million deck replacement on both sides of the Route 201 overpass starting Monday. Traffic on the north and southbound lanes between exits 132 and 138 will be restricted to one lane during construction and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph, according to a news release from the department.

Crews from T. Buck Construction, in Auburn, will replace concrete decks on the northbound and southbound bridges, install new bridge decks and waterproof membranes, replace the existing curb and rail along the bridges and pave the area.

The project is expected to be complete by July 4, according to the department. Starting the next day, crews will begin a deck replacement project on the Western Avenue overpass, which will continue through November.
