A fundraising dinner for area robotics teams is set for 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Red Barn in Augusta. This is a fundraiser for Hall-Dale High School’s REM Delta Prime Robotics and the Iron Tigers of Gardiner, according to a news release from Delta Prime Robotics.

The restaurant will donate a portion of the profits from the purchase of any menu item bought during the fundraiser to be shared by the two robotics teams.

Both robotics teams are members of the FIRST Robotics Competition, an international high school robotics competition that gives students real-world engineering experience. FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources and time limits, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, build a business model and team brand, hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get, according to the release.

Participating teams need to raise more than $40,000 each year to enter and participate in the competitions, many of which are out of state.
