On Sunday, Feb. 28, my wife and I enjoyed our breakfast at Hi-Hat Pancake House in Farmingdale. Shortly before we were ready to leave, the waitress told us that patrons at a nearby table had paid our bill when they left. We have no idea who these kind people are, but we hope that they will see this letter and know that we really appreciate their benevolence.

Perhaps they knew that we are the grandparents of a young woman who was murdered in 2013. Her murderer was sentenced just this past week to life imprisonment, plus 30 years, at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor. Maybe this was their way of offering support to us. We are thankful for their kindness.
