Hi, my name is Joanna. I am in fifth grade at Belgrade Central and think our Farm to School program is really important.

Farm to School is important to schools because it helps children make healthy food choices. It was found that more than 21 million students learned healthy eating habits from Farm to School.

Not only does the program help children learn about healthy foods, but also it helps kids learn about processed food. Fun fact: Most food that you eat is processed. This is because freezing food is just one way of processing food, and many foods you may eat are frozen.

In Farm to School, children must understand why composting helps environments around the world along with the soil. Do you have a compost bucket at home? Are you worried about global warming? Well, composting may not only impact the soil in your garden but also the whole earth.

You cannot ignore Farm to School if it really will help with climate change.

School cafeterias can also improve. Farm to School can prevent food being thrown in the trash because the program helps children pick different varieties of food. This will affect children because they will start liking their food better, and become more into the foods that they are eating. For example, color is important to younger kids, so if the food is something that they are not used to seeing they might eat it because of Farm to School.

It seems that as Farm to School spreads across the country this is one thing that can help children from carelessly putting food in the trash.

Together we must help Farm to School spread across the world and make a difference in children’s nutrition.
