As warmer weather comes there will be many more people using the roads, such as walkers, joggers, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Please, if you are driving a motor vehicle, pay attention to your driving, not the phone, or the morning newspaper, or breakfast, or your makeup or a book.

Accidents can happen in a split second and the above mentioned do not stand much of a chance against a motor vehicle. If everyone is doing what they should, there should be no excuse for hitting a pedestrian, a cyclist or a motorcyclist.

But by the same token, the above mentioned also have a responsibility to use the roads with the same attention, care and laws to protect themselves. Share the road does not apply just to motor vehicles.

I couldn’t live with myself if I hit anyone, but it seems some people have no conscience just by the fact that there are so many hit-and-runs, bringing to mind a friend who was cycling in Sidney a couple years back with a friend. Both were hit by a car that just sped away after the accident without even checking to see how serious the cyclists were hurt.

Please be careful and be responsible for your actions on the road.
