A Wiscasset police officer was injured early Thursday morning after the cruiser he was driving was struck by another vehicle on Route 1.
Sgt. Alfred Simmons was patrolling the main road in front of an Irving gas station/convenience store when a vehicle pulled out in front of Simmons’ cruiser and struck the driver’s side.
Yeshi Khendrup of El Cerrito, California – the driver of the other vehicle – was charged with failing to yield. His 2016 Acura SUV was damaged and towed from the scene.
Simmons’ police cruiser, a 2013 Dodge Charger, also was heavily damaged. Simmons, 64, complained of chest and stomach pain after the crash and was take to a local hospital. His injuries were not considered serious.
