FAIRFIELD — Police cited failure to stop at a stop sign as the cause of a two-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday at the intersection of Ten Lots, Davis, Six Rod and Martin Stream roads and that destroyed two vehicles and damaged a private fence.

Cindy Abbott, 36, of Oakland, suffered minor bruises and cuts after the 2012 Ford Escape she was driving north on Ten Lots Road went through a stop sign, crashed into a 2014 Toyota Corolla being driven east on Martin Stream by Aaron Beale, 25, of Clinton, and then broke through a fence and landed on a private lawn at the corner of Davis and Six Rod roads, according to Fairfield police Officer Shanna Blodgett.

Blodgett said the Escape struck the front end and back passenger seat side of the Toyota and the Ford was damaged on the driver’s side.

Asked if charges would be filed in the accident, Blodgett answered in the affirmative.

“There will be, most likely failing to stop at a stop sign,” she said.

The accident was reported at 10:05 a.m. The speed limit at the site is 35 mph. Air bags deployed in both vehicles. Beale and two of Abbott’s passengers suffered minor bumps and bruises, according to Blodgett. Abbott was treated inside a Delta Ambulance at the scene and then emerged from the ambulance and was being comforted by a man.

Perley Williams, 54, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Ford, and Shawn McIntyre, 17, was sitting in the rear seat behind Abbott when the crash occurred, according to Blodgett. Both are Oakland residents, she said.

Beale was alone in the Toyota at the time of the crash, she said.

At the scene, the Toyota was on the side of Davis Road facing south, its front end smashed in. C&J Trailer Repair & Towing hauled it away.

Fairfield firefighters had arrived at the scene with a truck and rescue vehicle and were directing traffic and helping clean up debris in the road that had broken off the Toyota. Blodgett estimated the damage to the fence was about $200.

Six Rod Road runs east to west and turns into Martin Stream Road at the intersection. Davis Road runs north to south toward Oakland and turns into Ten Lots road at the intersection.
