Maine fishing regulators are proposing a sea urchin harvesting season that is as long as the one that ended in March.
Maine sea urchins are harvested for their roe. The fishery was worth about $4.3 million last season, which was the lowest total since 1989.
The fishery has typically been worth between $5 million and $6 million in recent years.
Divers, rakers, trappers and draggers harvest the urchins. The fishermen are limited to a number of fishing days based on where they are located on the coast.
Regulators say the number of days will be the same on all parts of the coast as the 2015-16 season. The 2016-17 season runs between September and March, as it did last season.
