SARGENTS PURCHASE, N.H. – A search is underway in New Hampshire for a missing Canadian hiker whose car has been found in a visitors center near Mount Washington.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said that conservation officers launched a search Thursday after Francois Carrier was reported missing in the area. Since then, search has been joined by search and rescue dogs and volunteers from AMC Pinkham Notch Visitors Center. On Friday, the New Hampshire Air National Guard began an aerial search.
The White Mountain range, including Mount Washington, is a popular hiking destination. But the area’s challenging terrain and unpredictable weather has proven a challenge to even the most experience hikers. In October, the body of a missing Massachusetts hiker, 64-year-old Clairemarie Cocuzzo, was found in a river in the White Mountains.
