A man was injured after a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 2 in Mercer Thursday afternoon, police said.

The 74-year-old man, who police did not identify, was taken to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The crash was reported about 12:25 p.m. and police were still on scene around 4 p.m., the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Police believe a 2005 Dodge four-door pickup driven by the man crossed the center line and hit a loaded single-axle lime truck, causing both to veer off the road. A car was also hit and also went off the road, police said.

A Maine State Police trooper inspected the commercial vehicle while the Fairfield Police Department reconstructed the accident.

No other information was immediately available.
