Co-workers of a Unity woman who was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision on Route 137 in Knox are mourning her death, a manager at Harbor Hill Center in Belfast said Thursday.

Shannon Kennedy, 30, died when her car collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by Charles Fitzpatrick, 63, of Troy, according to a news release from Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.

Kennedy was a certified nursing assistant at the assisted living and nursing care residence, said Garth Berenyi, executive director of the residence.

“She was very well liked and a hard worker,” said Garth Berenyi, executive director of the center. “She always came to work with a smile on her face.”

Kennedy was driving in the direction of her home at the time of the accident, according to Berenyi, who said he thinks she was on her way home from work.

“It’s pretty close-knit and people know each other pretty well here,” Berenyi said. “It’s affecting everyone.”

Fitzpatrick was treated at the accident scene for minor injuries.

State police said Kennedy’s car crossed into the oncoming lane on Route 137 and collided with Fitzgerald’s truck about 3:30 p.m. near Hilltop Store. Kennedy’s car crossed the centerline on a slight curve, police said.

McCausland said the accident is under investigation.
