Sen. Scott Cyrway, R-Benton, and state Rep. Thomas Longstaff, D-Waterville, have been recognized by the American Legion for their advocacy efforts on behalf of Maine’s veterans, according to news releases.

Both are members of the Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee, of which Cyrway is chairman. The committee crafted comprehensive veterans services leglislation that becomes law this year, according to a news release from the Maine State House Majority Office. The legislation included a tuition waiver for National Guard members.

The awards were presented at the June 18 American Legion Annual Convention in Bangor.

Cyrway represents Senate District 16, which includes Albion, Benton, Clinton, Fairfield, Unity Township, Waterville and Winslow. Longstaff represents House, District 109, which includes part of Waterville.
