DAMARISCOTTA — A community-based First Aid, AED and CPR class, facilitated by Roger Quandt, director of Emergency Medical Services for Westport Island, will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main St.

Those who attend can learn how to handle emergency situations and administer basic care for injuries or sudden illness until advanced medical care can take over. First Aid teaches people to take basic disease transmission precautions, recognize and care for bleeding, wounds, and sudden illness; and immobilize muscle, bone and joint injuries. If administered correctly CPR can be used to help someone in breathing and cardiac emergencies. Compression-Only CPR involves giving continuous chest compressions (at the rate of 100 compressions per minute) without rescue breaths.

Advanced registration required. Call 563-1363 by Friday, Aug. 19. Cost is $30 which includes course materials and graduates CPR, AED and First Aid Certificate.
