WINSLOW — A water main break on Clinton Avenue closed a portion of the road to traffic and cut off water to some area residents Sunday afternoon.
The break was reported around 1 p.m. in the area of 66 Clinton Ave. and was still being repaired by the Kennebec Water District at around 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the break was not immediately known Sunday afternoon, according to Matt Zetterman, director of water quality for the Kennebec Water District, but likely had to do with the age of the pipe.
“There are a lot of things that could have caused it,” Zetterman said. “It was an older pipe, but there are a lot that age that don’t break so it’s hard to say.”
Twenty-three households were without water service Sunday afternoon and Zetterman said that if all goes well they could expect to have service returned Sunday evening.
