WATERVLLE — The annual meeting of the Maine Storytelling Muster will convene from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the United Methodist Church on Pleasant Street.

The Muster is an opportunity for all storytellers in Maine to meet together, share information about storytelling events in all areas of Maine and focus on a particular theme. This year’s theme is “Heirloom Stories: Passing Stories Through the Generations.”

The day’s events will include themed workshops, an on-site lunch, time for sharing events and happenings and concluding with the traditional story swap.

While the event is sponsored by the three storytelling guilds in Maine, the event is open to the public.

This year’s theme may particularly appeal to anyone who is interested in developing family, community or historical stories. A workshop for new tellers is included in the day’s offerings. Registration costs $20 and further donations for scholarships and general expenses are appreciated.

For information and registration, contact Phyllis Blackstone, coordinator at 860-6622 (leave a message) or phyllis.blackstone@maine.edu, or mail registrations to Blackstone at P.O. Box 525, Brunswick, ME 04011.

The Muster Planning Committee also will offer a storytelling concert the night before the Muster to benefit the Waterville Food Bank and Mid Maine Homeless Shelter.

The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Pleasant Street Methodist Church fellowship hall. The suggested donation is $10, donations of any amount will benefit the food pantry and homeless shelter.
