State officials have sanctioned orthopedic surgeon Peter Ameglio after learning he lost his privileges at Parkview Adventist Medical Center in 2015 because of substandard or inadequate care.
The Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine said the initial complaint was about the care of two patients at the now-closed hospital on June 8, 2015. The complaint later expanded to include an independent review of Ameglio’s care of 20 patients, according to a consent agreement posted on the medical board’s website.
The independent reviewer found inadequate documentation and missing information on patient charts, but stated he did not think Ameglio engaged in unprofessional behavior.
On Aug. 12, Ameglio signed a consent agreement with the board and the Maine Office of Attorney General, agreeing to a license probation for an undetermined period. He also agreed to successfully complete 20 hours of continuing medical education and either complete an additional surgical fellowship or practice medicine with an orthopedic physician monitor.
