A Hancock woman pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing more than $83,000 from the bank branch where she worked.
Jodi L. Webber, 37, admitted that she stole the money between November 2015 and February 2016 from the Bar Harbor branch of Camden National Bank.
Webber said in U.S. District Court in Bangor that she took the cash from her teller drawer and then tried to conceal the theft by replacing the cash with money withdrawn from customer accounts. She forged customer signatures on withdrawal slips, court officials said, and then reversed the withdrawals the same day after the bank’s cash audit was done.
A customer questioned one of the transactions, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty’s office, leading the bank to examine Webber’s transactions and uncover the embezzlement.
Webber will be sentenced at a later date. She faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.
