Police are searching for a man who fled a traffic stop on foot in Fayette around 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to Kennebec County Sheriff Ryan Reardon.

The man fled onto an off-road trail somewhere in the vicinity of Richmond Mills Road, according to police and emergency dispatchers who were calling authorities to the scene Monday morning, but those reports could not immediately be confirmed.

Members of the Maine State Police and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, including a police dog unit, were contributing to the search, Reardon said.

More information about the incident was not immediately available from the Maine State Police on Monday.
