AUGUSTA — A Hallowell man found dead in Cobbossee Lake on Thursday morning in Manchester died of natural causes, according to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
Richard Barrett, 84, suffered a “cardiac event,” said Mark Belserene, a spokesman for that office. Belserene said the results of the autopsy were received Tuesday morning.
Barrett apparently slipped and fell into the lake while doing yard work near his sister’s home.
Deputies with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office responded to Barrett’s sister’s call for help, which was made about 10:11 a.m. that day. Barrett was found in the water near the intersection of Pond and Collins roads and apparently had fallen into the lake near its outlet into Cobbosseecontee Stream.
