The Kennebec Valley Art Association recently received a $2,500 grant from the Expansion Arts program of the Maine Community Foundation in support of “Doors: Art and Poetry from LINC & WSC,” an upcoming art exhibition Oct. 28 to Dec. 3 at the Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St., Hallowell.

The exhibition will showcase work by artists participating in programs at Living in the Community Wellness Center in Augusta and the Waterville Social Club in Waterville and is curated by Natasha Mayers and poet Lee Sharkey.

Community artist Natasha Mayers has taught art classes in both LINC and WSC since 1981. Lee Sharkey, an award-winning Maine poet, has led a writing class at LINC since 1987; the written and spoken work will be an integral part of this exhibition, including a poetry reading at the exhibition’s opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Grant funds will support, in part, the publication of a book of art and poetry by participating artists.
