WATERVILLE — The 8th annual Freaky 5K Run/Walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 29, at Colby College. Registration/check-in will begin at 9 a.m. in the Diamond Building, the Kids Run will start at 9:15 a.m.,the Costume Contest is set for 9:45 a.m. and the Run/Walk will begin at 10 a.m.

The Hardy Girls Healthy Women event is a reminder that Halloween should be about imaginative and creative costumes, not the frighteningly sexualized ones peddled to even the youngest girls. The organization invites participants for a costumes-appreciated trot through town in support of the organization.

Advance registration will cost $25 for adults and $25 for students, day-of registration will cost $35 for adults and $25 for students. Prices include a green ruckus yowie, pre-race festivities, and a timed result.

Teams are three or more runners, who commit to at least starting the race together, qualify for the Team Costume Prize and each team member gets a discount on registration. Adults on teams pay $20 and students pay $10.

The Costume Contest will include awards in four categories: Scariest, Best Team and Most Creative. New this year is a fourth category, Hardiest. The Hardiest Costume will be awarded to the individual or team whose costume(s) highlights a ruckus causer.

The course will be clearly marked and there will be road crossers.
