Specialty pharmaceutical company Apothecary By Design has acquired a Waltham, Massachusetts, specialty pharmacy.

Portland-based Apothecary By Design bought Village Fertility Pharmacy on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed in a news release announcing the purchase.

ABD specializes in infertility treatments, as well as other chronic and complicated conditions.

Village is dedicated exclusively to fertility services. The combination significantly expands and enhances the business to better support patients nationally in the $1 billion fertility pharmacy market, according to ABD President Tom Madden.

“Our combined best practices, expertise and resources will benefit the business, but just as importantly, our patients,” he said in the release.

This is the second acquisition this year for the specialty pharmacy, which in February spun off its original retail business into Coastal Pharmacy & Wellness.

In March, ABD bought Healy Pharmacy of Warrenville, Illinois, to expand its presence in the Midwest.

In September of last year, BelHealth Investment Partners, a New York private equity firm, acquired a controlling interest in Apothecary By Design, to position it as the corporate parent for future acquisitions. It provides capital to rapidly grow portfolio companies with the goal of selling them within three to five years.
