A woman was wounded Tuesday night in a shooting in the York County town of Hollis, Maine State Police said.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was undergoing surgery late Tuesday night, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Her condition was not known.

A man was taken into custody and transported to the Troop A barracks in Alfred for questioning, according to McCausland.

The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. outside a home on River Road.
