A Portland man has been found guilty of murder for shooting another man in the head in late 2014.
Abdirahman Huessin Haji-Hassan, 25, was found guilty after a jury deliberated for two and a half hours on Monday, said Tim Feeley, spokesman for the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
Haji-Hassan was accused of shooting Richard Lobor, 23, during a dispute at another man’s Brighton Avenue apartment on Nov. 21 2014.
According to authorities, Haji-Hassan and another man were involved in a dispute in the apartment and Lobor stepped in between the two. Haji-Hassan shot Lobor in the leg and in the head and then fled to Minneapolis, where he was arrested Dec. 19, 2014.
After his arrest, Haji-Hassan agreed to return to Maine to face the murder charge and pleaded not guilty.
His trial in Cumberland County Superior Court lasted a week and closing arguments were Monday. The jury returned its verdict the same day.
Haji-Hassan will be sentenced at a later date. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
