AUGUSTA — The Gardiner Area High School boys basketball team looked sluggish in the first half against Brewer. It didn’t take the Tigers long to find their form in the second.

Kyle Johnson had 17 points and Connor McGuire had 16 to lead Gardiner to a 60-54 victory at the Capital City Hoop Classic on Tuesday at the Augusta Civic Center.

McGuire scored seven of those points in the third quarter as Gardiner took the lead for good, turning a 28-25 deficit into a 43-38 advantage by the end of the period. Johnson and Isaiah Magee (11 points) scored five points apiece in the fourth as the Tigers held off the Witches to seal the win.

Cole Heaberlin added 14 points for Gardiner, while Kobe Rogerson led Brewer with 16.

MESSALONSKEE 73, MT. BLUE 36: Nate Violette poured in 27 points and had five steals to lead the Eagles (3-2) to victory at the Capital City Hoop Classic in Augusta.

James Kouletsis had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Messalonskee, while Griffin Tuttle had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Chase Warren dished out five assists.

Cooper Hollingsworth had 11 points for Mt. Blue (1-4). James Anderson scored seven.

HALL-DALE 77, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 67, OT: Alec Byron scored 24 points to lift the Bulldogs to the MVC win at the Capital City Hoop Classic in Augusta.

Alec Roberts added 17 points for Hall-Dale (6-0) while Tyler Nadeau had 13 points and eight assists and Jett Boyer chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Falcons (3-4) were led by Zach Duguay with 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WINSLOW 78, ERSKINE 15: Heather Kervin went 8-for8 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line for 21 points and added six rebounds to spark the Black Raiders to the win in Winslow.

Silver Clukey added 18 points for Winslow (4-1) while Paige Trask scored 11 points and Maeghan Bernard grabbed seven rebounds.

Erskine (1-4) was led by Faith Krause with five points.
