DOVER, N.H. – A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for his role in a 2013 crash that killed a Maine minister and his wife.

John Shaw was sentenced on Monday for his role in a head-on crash in Barrington, New Hampshire, that left Joel and Maxine McLain, both of Biddeford, Maine, dead.

Jurors convicted Shaw, of Barrington, of negligent homicide for driving under the influence and negligent homicide for driving at a high-rate of speed and crossing over the center line.

Shaw’s attorney says his client voluntarily went to Alcoholics Anonymous after the crash and is converting his home into transitional housing for addicts.

The judge sentenced Shaw to prison, saying impaired drivers must face stiff consequences.
