ROME — Representatives from the Department of Labor presented Gary Foss, chief of the Rome Fire Department, with the Safety and Health Award for Public Employers on Jan. 23.

The award recognizes public-sector employers and employees for providing a safe and healthful workplace, according to a news release from the Maine Legislature.

“Congratulations to the Rome Fire Department on receiving this well-deserved recognition,” said Sen. Rodney Whittemore, R-Skowhegan, according to the release. “This important award exemplifies Rome Fire Department’s commitment to safety, for both their employees and the community that they serve.”
