WISCASSET — Colby History Professor Elizabeth D. Leonard talk about women in the American Civil War at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the Wiscasset Public Library, 21 High St.

According to a news release from the library, women played major roles in both Civil War armies: they supplied clothes, food, nursing and even doctors, messengers, spies, and, disguised as men, soldiers.

Leonard is the author of several books, including “Lincoln’s Forgotten Ally: Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt of Kentucky,” which won the 2012 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize.

The talk is free. Light refreshments will be served.
