A Massachusetts man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car in Yarmouth on Sunday.

William Boynton, 22, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, was taken into custody after the owner of the car spotted Boynton driving through town and called police.

A resident on East Main Street reported on Sunday morning that his car had been stolen within the past 90 minutes. After filing a report with an officer, the man began driving around looking for his stolen car, according to Yarmouth police.

When the resident spotted the car, Boynton took off at a high rate of speed into Freeport, police said. Officers in Yarmouth and Freeport searched the area unsuccessfully for the stolen car.

A Freeport officer later saw the stolen Jeep drive past the police station on Main Street. The officer followed the car onto I-295 and back into Yarmouth, where Yarmouth officers were able to intercept the Jeep. Boynton stopped for Yarmouth officers and was arrested without incident, police said.

Boynton was arrested on a charge of Class B theft.
