ROCKPORT — Police in Rockport have found the body of a man who they believe died when he failed to negotiate a curve on his bicycle and hit a tree.

Randy Gagne, chief of police for Camden and Rockport, said Tuesday that the dead man was discovered Saturday on Mt. Pleasant Road in Rockport after a nearby resident investigating a foul odor found the body.

“It appears that the deceased failed to negotiate a sharp turn in the road on his bicycle, and struck a tree head-on. We are not sure at this point when the accident occurred,” Gagne said.

The accident remains under investigation and the Rockport Police Department is withholding the name of the man until next of kin can be contacted.
