CAMDEN — A Brunswick man has been charged in an attempted robbery in which the suspect tried to get into a Brunks armored truck while wearing a haz-mat suit.

Camden Police charged Jon Baribeau, 48, of Brunswick, with Class B attempted felony theft, after Baribeau allegedly tried to get into the armored truck while it was parked at the Camden Hannaford store on Aug. 28.

Baribeau was arrested Tuesday in Brunswick and taken to Knox County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 cash.

The incident occurred about 9 a.m., Aug. 28, according to police. Officials said the male suspect was wearing a bright yellow outfit that looked like a hazardous materials suit, as well as a black face mask when he approached the Brink’s armored truck and tried to open the rear door.

The door was locked and the man fled on foot to the rear of the shopping center on Route 1.

Camden police officers searched locations around the area to find the suspect, along with a Belfast police officer with a police K9 unit and Knox County Sheriff’s officers.
