Police have charged an Easton man with murder in connection with the death of a 79-year-old man who was found dead in his Bridgewater home Wednesday night.

Police arrested James Peaslee, 37, after stopping him as he was driving on a road in Easton around 1 a.m. Thursday , Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said in a statement. Peaslee was taken to the Aroostook County Jail and charged with murder.

On Wednesday evening, Aroostook County sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police responding to a 911 call just before 6 p.m. found the body of Paul Hilenski in his home at 227 Boundary Line Road. The death was considered suspicious and the sheriff’s office asked residents on the road to remain inside and lock their doors during the initial investigation, WCSH-TV reported. The sheriff’s office lifted the order around 11 p.m.

Members of the state police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Response Team planned to search the Hilenski residence and Peaslee’s home on the Station Road in Easton, McCausland said.

An autopsy on Hilenski’s body will be performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.
