It is the most celebrated truck in New England. The Boston Red Sox equipment truck will depart Monday, stop at Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and then head to the team’s spring training headquarters in Fort Myers, Florida.

The annual “Truck Day” celebration began with Red Sox staff loading up the truck. According to the Red Sox, the cargo included 20,400 baseballs, 1,100 bats, 200 batting gloves, 200 batting helmets, 20 cases of bubble gum and 60 cases of sunflower seeds.

There was no mention of sunscreen, but we can only assume.

Boston’s spring training officially begins Feb. 13 when pitchers and catchers report, and begin working out the next day. The first full team workout is Feb. 19. Exhibition games begin Feb. 22 with a doubleheader against the kids from Northeastern and Boston College. The official Grapefruit League schedule begins Feb. 23, at JetBlue Park, against the Twins.
