HALLOWELL — The Harlow Gallery has announced a schedule of art-related workshops to take place on Saturday mornings at 100 Water St. The gallery plans to maintain a steady schedule of workshops throughout the year.

The first workshops of 2018 include: “Create & Take: Valentines,” a drop-in Valentine-making event set for Feb. 10; “Pysanka,” a Ukrainian egg-decorating workshop on March 3; “Sun, Moon & Stars,” a collage workshop on March 17; and “Crafting Ceramic Letters,” a workshop on March 24.

Registration is required for all workshops unless stated otherwise.

A Valentine’s “Create and Take” session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 10. Anyone can drop-in to make Valentines for coworkers, friends, classmates, family or significant others. A variety of materials will be provided, including envelope-making instruction, various templates and even some sweet treats. The participation fee is $10 for adults or $5 for children.

Norma Ociepka will provide a step-by-step guided tutorial in the traditional Ukrainian craft of Pysanka from 9 a.m. to noon On Saturday, March 3. Using wax, dyes and a flame, participants can create something beautiful in this tradition. Cost is $30 for members, $35 for nonmembers or $20 for those 10-17 years old. Registration is required.

Robin Brooks will lead a morning of collage exploration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17. In this three-hour workshop participants can use cut and torn paper, scissors and paste or glue, to explore figure/ground relationships and to create unique collage compositions. This workshop is designed for those 5 and older; artists and aspiring artists alike. Cost is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers, or $10 for children 5-17. Registration is required.

Local ceramic artist Juliette Walker will host a three-hour workshop in crafting ceramic letters from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 24. Beginning with a brainstorming session, each participant will come up with words or phrases they would like to see out in their community, and sculpt out of clay. Walker will lead the group in crafting their ceramic letters. She will photograph the letters around the town of Hallowell, and they will become a part of an online social media exhibition. Cost is $30 for members, $35 for nonmembers, or $20 for those 8-17. Registration is required.
