OAKLAND — This year’s Empty Bowls Dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, in Messalonskee High School’s cafeteria, at 131 Messalonskee High Drive.

The cost is $10 for adults or $8 for seniors and students. This year theme baskets will be raffled.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local food pantries. The event is intended to raise awareness of community members who are struggling to provide food for their families.

Students and faculty members of the high school, under the direction of ceramics teacher Sherrie Damon, have been crafting ceramic bowls to be sold as part of the dinner.

The menu will include homemade soups, salad, Panera bread and desserts. The pottery bowls will be on display for diners to choose and take home with them as a reminder of the event and what it represents.

The performance of “Almost, Maine” by the Messalonskee High School Players will follow dinner. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
